Princess Aurora, Sleeping Beauty..

Hello there! It's been a while since my last post here and I'm super excited to finally find some time to share about this cake. So last week (or maybe almost 2 weeks) I made a cake for my aunt's little daughter. She's 5, she loves princesses, and she wants a Princess Aurora cake.

I wouldn't say it's a complicated cake so I took up the order and I made a round strawberry cake topped with a Princess Aurora doll cake! It's my first time (in such a long time) baking in my Jakarta home kitchen so it was pretty awesome working alone in such a huge space.

I bought a Disney Princess Doll for the cake which made her look more familiar rather than using a normal Barbie doll because they all tend to look the same. Her facial feature, and tiara, and her iconic long curly blond hair completes her signature look which we remember from Disney Classic.

Anyway, I started decorating after dinner (not a good idea) and end up finishing around 2am. It would've been really boring without my sister and this little fluff, Coco! She was so chill and just sat in the corner patiently waiting.

And here is a picture of the final product! I can't imagine the little girl's face when she saw this cake. My aunt said that she was super happy that she played her "princess" role throughout the celebration in school... and that's my goal, to spread a sense of happiness and blessing through the things that I do. Cake Couture For My 23rd Birthday!

Please excuse me for the lack of updates, I was having too much fun in California.

A few weeks ago, I celebrated my 23rd birthday!

Like all my past birthdays, I always find myself having this crazy feeling... about suddenly realizing that another year have gone by. For me, September always fly by super fast.

This year, I am blessed to be able to spend my birthday with my family. The last time that happened was on my 18th birthday before I went to college. So, it's been a while.

Nonetheless, I wanted a pretty cake. I've been thinking about it since a month ago, and I knew I wanted a Hello Kitty Sailor cake!

Too bad I am currently staying in my sister's apartment in Davis, CA, so I didn't have the tools, formulas, ingredients, and the time to make one myself. If I could, I would, but this time, I searched around town to place a custom cake order.

After all the research on Google and Yelp, I finally found Christie from Cake Couture. She lives in Davis and caters to clients around the area. Her website is very professional and I guess that was a "wow" factor for me as compared to the other bakers in the area.

I met up with her about 3 or 4 days before my birthday to discuss the cake design and she did a very lovely Hello Kitty figurine on the boat. I absolutely love the effort she put into the details.

It might sound strange ordering my own birthday cake from another baker, but I'm glad I went about calling her. Christie is such a wonderful and talented person. Frankly, I was extremely inspired by her and the hard work she puts into the home based cake business.

I really admire her dedication to this passion and business, knowing that cake orders will keep you up all night, especially if you're working alone...

I was very pleased that she was able to squeeze my order into her super full and tight schedule! She is very approachable and was able to accommodate my request for an earlier pick up time.   

This cake screams 2 of my favorite things: Hello Kitty and Anchors, and I am so hyped about having it as my 23rd birthday cake.

Oh by the way, I forgot to tell you, the cake was coffee flavored with French-roast Starbucks flavored coffee filling. I love coffee flavor, so I thought that cake could use a little bit more coffee kick to it, but that's just me. Okay, let's cut the cake!

Oreos should always be chocolate.

I think Oreos should always be chocolate. I've had a fair share of their berries and cream, mint oreos, and peanut butter oreos - And I'd still prefer the original flavor. 

Have you seen those blondie oreos? I'd rather have a Nilla wafer cookie anytime, anyday!

A while back, Sunny and I were invited to a mini office family fun cook out! 

We headed over to Alison's home up in Massachusetts, and had a nice Saturday gathering with all the kids and babies. 

So, I made it a point to make a simple old fashioned chocolate cake with cookies and cream frosting.

Kids love chocolate, right? always, without fail.

It was also Heather's last day with us. She's such a sweet person to work with - and I wish her all the best for her future endeavors in California!

I bought some pocky a while back and decided to put it on the cake too.

And the end result was a 3 layered chocolate cake with chocolate ganache filling and cookies and cream butter-cream!

Look who came and join us on the table? It's Woody and Spongebob!
